1. Research different learning styles and your skill level in the mechanics and process of writing. Links to site where you can take tests to understand differences in learning are lised on the webpage.
2.Go to http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/684/01/ and read this handout published by Purdue University, one of the best college’s in the United States. What’s good for them is good for you too
3.Write a one page reflective essay on the required reading.
DISCUSSION: Rhetorical situations, writing as a process, and how to read assigned essays and what you will learn from them. The CIQ and why we do it. Why we write: read pages 3-15. Write a one page assessment of why you write and how you feel about it. Additionally we will be talking about the purpose and value of education and writing. Rhetorical formats: narrative, definition, process. We will also review and practice writing an effective paragraph, and learn about keeping a portfolio. CIQ to be done during the last class of the week.

Learner Autobiography
1.Write two perfect paragraphs describing how you learn and what you think will help you learn.
2.Each week, complete a double entry journal for one of the essays you read.
3.Week 2: One page (minimum) essay on your best ever learning experience. This is the first part of your learner autobiography narrative. (INFORMAL)
4.Week 2: Make an appointment to visit the Academic Success Center. Meet at least one tutor and talk about what the ASC can do to support you as a learner. Have one of the tutors sign-off that you were there.
5.Week 3: One page (minimum) essay on your worst ever learning experience. Part two of essay. (INFORMAL)
6.Week 3: Go to the library and research Information Literacy. Make sure you talk to the Librarian, also known as the Assistant Dean of Learning Instruction (the librarian) about Information Literacy.
7.Week 4: One page (minimum) essay on what you feel about education and how you learn best. Describe something you have learned all by yourself and how that felt. (INFORMAL) Part three of your learner narrative. (INFORMAL)
8.Week 5: Final essay combining the drafts from the previous three weeks into one essay that explains about your life as a learner. Due on Friday at noon of Week 5.
9.CIQ: You will be required to fill out a Critical Incident Questionnaire during the last class day of each week.
DISCUSSIONS: The first item of each week will be a discussion of the previous week’s learning as reflected in the CIQs that you complete. Be prepared to suggest solutions to the issues we discuss. We will also talk about the essays you read. You are expected to explain how you interpreted them and whether you think the writers made good points or not. Support your opinion with passages from the essays.
